why do we have a predilection to eat crunchy things?

the reason i ask this question is that "taste" evolves as an approximation of nutritional needs (sweet => calories, salt => minerals) .. wonder if there is a similar thing for texture

just take a look down the chips aisle or the cereal aisle .. crunchiness is definitely a serious selling factor
